No floating labels — the animation and the mid-border position both fight the system. Focus uses an inset ring so nothing shifts.

Cards sit in a collapsed grid, not in whitespace
The 1px gap over a line-colored background is the border. Cells carry none of their own, so lines are never doubled and never misalign.
